Forgotten Delaware Visits the Brandywine Industrial Track
The Brandywine Industrial Track was a branch line constructed in 1882 by the Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Baltimore Railroad, it later passed on to the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad, and Conrail. The line ran North along the Brandywine Creek. breaking off of the North East Corridor at a place called Landlith, to serve the Augustine Paper Mills owned by Jessup & Moore Paper Company 2.14 miles upstream. The line was later extended another mile or so to serve the Bancroft Textile Mills located on the opposite side of the river. The Bancroft Mill was served by warehouses connected to the mill via two steel bridges that crossed the Brandywine. The Brandywine Industrial Track was a great little line with lots on industries that included warehouses, power plants, junk yards, paper mills, a coal dealer, textile mills, bakeries, a flower distributor, liquor distributor, flour mills, and team tracks.
