Along Route 82 in the Red Clay Valley just South of Yorklyn the Crowell Corporation manufactured gummed tape. Crowell has been in business since 1906 and still manufactures tape at a plant near Newport, Delaware. The old plant was shoehorned in on a small plot of land as shown on the map below. If you drive past that location today it is hard to imagine a manufacturing plant fitting in along the bank of the creek. The plant has a railroad siding that was obviously in use at the time the photo was taken. The dam from the old facility is still in place and some ruins can still be found on the banks of the creek.
