The Reading Railroad used to deliver railroad cars to the Dupont Company in New Jersey from Wilmington, DE. Tank cars were loaded onto barges at Pigeon Point and taken across the Delaware River to Dupont by tugboats owned by the Reading Railroad. Click any of the photos for a larger view.

The view on the right shows the view looking back from the bridge. The view on the right is of the springs used to hold the track against the bridge. The track was held against the bridge from underneath.
This wheel was used to pull the barge tight up against bridge when they were ready to load railcars onto the barge.
These two shots show the left and right towers used to raise and lower the bridge as needed for the barge. Notice the cement counterweights used to offset the weight of the bridge.
