The Pennsylvania Railroad had three movable bridges that crossed the Christiana River in Wilmington, Delaware. They were numbered "Bridge #1", "Bridge #2", & "Bridge #3" with "Bridge #1" being the farthest most upstream on the Christiana River.

"Bridge #1" was used by the "Delaware Road" which was the line that went south from Wilmington and ran to Cape Charles, VA. It was out of service in the 1970's and removed in the early 1980's. Forgotten Delaware has not gotten around to documenting this bridge but it is on our list.

Forgotten Delaware has a page that covers "Bridge #2" at Millside, DE, we are happy to report that it is still in place and in use by Norfolk Southern. The Reading Railroad had one movable bridge that crossed the Christiana River at Millside, DE was located adjacent to the Pennsylvania Railroad bridge. it remains in place but has not been used since the 1970's.

Forgotten Delaware has a page covering "Bridge #3", it is presently out of service but still in place.

The Wilmington and Western Railroad /Baltimore and Ohio Railroad bridge was located down stream from the Millside bridges. It was the first railroad bridge removed having been removed by the 1940's. Forgotten Delaware is working on more information on the bridge but little is available.

Over on the Brandywine the Pennsylvania Railroad crossed on a movable bridge that is still used by Amtrak although has not been operated as a movable bridge in over 30 years. Forgotten Delaware has a small page set up to show off this bridge. We don't know if it had an official name but we refer to it as the "PRR Brandywine Bridge".
